Toddlers Today's MomsTalk Archive Well hello ladies. As usual I have had a very busy weekend. The kids are fighting non stop and Dillon is not feeling well once again. My throat is hurting again and I am thinking of going to the ENT. I can go ahead and do that since we do not have to have a referral. I guess I will go to the same one that took out Blake's tonsils since he takes patients of all ages. I haven't told Jay yet but it is really getting to bother me. I have to swallow my food about 10 times before it makes it down. It is very annoying. Dillon is already in bed and he has slept most of the day away. We went to church this morning so he didn't get his morning nap. He cried when Jay left him in the nursery. I thought that he wasn't going to go through that but he has been lately. It may just be that he does not feel well though. He hasn't been wanting to eat very well again either. I am thinking that maybe his throat is hurting him. His nose is still running and I cannot get it to stop. Any suggestions from anyone? I tried, Benadryl, Dimetapp, and Pediacare. No good for this runny nose that he has. Well Friday night Taylor was bored I guess while I was cooking supper and she went into our room and poured out a whole big bottle of baby lotion and smeared it everywhere. She wiped it on the tv, puppy, her dress, and the wall. I really wanted t strangle her but I let her live instead since I do love her so much. It took me a while to get it out of the carpet and even then I could not get it all out. We need the steam cleaner to get it all out. Well I hope that you all got the e-mail that we sent you that our ISP has changed so we have a new e-mail address now. It will be at the bottom so check it out and make the changes please. Also, anyone that wants to know what I look like that does not know already can now read my diary that will be on Toddler's Today. It will be up on Monday. I am really excited about it. Guess I will get on with the posts now. Crystal- I am so glad that you got the job that you wanted. It will be nice to make the money and not have to pay for daycare. I am going to put in a n application tomorrow at a daycare for part-time. Don't know if I could take the kids but if not then they can stay with their dad. Want he be pulling his hair out then??? I think I will laugh my butt off when he has to do that. Romaine- Wow! Not long to go now. I know that you are more than ready to have the little one. Hopefully it will happen very soon and you will not have to wait for the two weeks to pass by. Debbie- Don't you just love that tongue? It gets them in more trouble doesn't it? Taylor is always doing something to stay in trouble. Slapping at me, talking back, saying bad words and hitting her brothers. I don't think that she knows how to stay out of trouble. Julianne- That is great that the interview went so well. I always tense up and get all nervous in interviews. Well hopefully you will get offered the job if you want it. I know what you mean about building a house. We are going to add on to ours but we are going to do it a bit at a time until it is done. Sorry about the sunscreen exploding. As I said above, I had a similar experience with Taylor. I can't believe that the DH wants more babies after triplets. Let him carry the next time. LOL Sarah- I saw Patch Adams and You've Got Mail and I loved both movies and I actually cried during both of them. You would think I was pregnant. Dillon is always shaking his head no also when we tell him no. They are just so cute. I don't know what to tell you about her not eating well. Dillon is the same way though. Is she maybe teething? WTG for Amanda sleeping all night sometimes. Leanne- That is great that Cynthia no longer has to have her soother. I know that is a major accomplishment for you. That is great that Veronica is walking with the Fisher price Activity Walker. Is that the one that you are talking about? My kids all loved that. Well Blake did not have it but the other two loved it. How sweet of DH to have said that. It is wonderful when they say stuff like that. They usually just think that we should know it without them telling us. SarahG- That is great that Isaac went to the potty all the time. What a big boy he is now.Hope that you have fun in the HTML class. I have learned quite a bit of that on the internet. It is a bit confusing but I can do it if I take my time. It would be allot of fun to take a class on it though. Kelli-Where are you girl. I miss you allot. Okay ladies, tomorrow I am going to go put in an application for working part time at a daybare. I would love that and it would be nice to get out of the house sometimes. Also, Tuesday is our 8th Anniversary. Can't believe it has been that long. I hope we have many more. Well I will talk to you all later. Tracey & Dillon email: battnt@mindspring.com Sunday, August 15, 1999 at 19:41:00 (MDT)) HELLO!!! What a weekend! Elizabeth was ~WIRED~ all weekend! She just wanted to play, play, play! We went to the mall today and got Elizabeth clothes for this fall and winter. We were real lucky with the clothes situation for the first year. We had TONS of hand-me-downs that were still in great shape. We maybe bought Elizabeth 7 or 8 outfits her whole first year! So, I guess we just got our first dose of a big clothing bill! We got her some cute stuff, though. In other news: Elizabeth knows where her mouth, tongue, ear, hair, eyes, nose and toes are. It's so funny because if you ask her where her mouth is, she will open it as much as she can and when you ask her where her tongue is she will stick it out and move it around. Tonight, DH and I sat down on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and were getting ready to watch a movie. Elizabeth was playing in the kitchen with my plastic bowls and tupperware. Instead of watching the movie, we just sat on the couch eating popcorn and watched Elizabeth. That was the best show I have ever watched! The movie will wait until tomorrow. Our daughter is growing more and more before our eyes! Tracey, your poor throat!!! Yes, it does sound like you need to make a trip to the ENT. Oh boy... that TNT is a mess! I guess she likes baby lotion, huh! I hope everything works out in your favor with the part time position at the daycare! HEY... Happy 8th Anniversary!! GUESS WHAT... I may also be a diary writer! I sent everything in last Thursday and they told me that I should be featured Monday. I had a couple questions, so it may be the following Monday. Romaine, WOW... 2 weeks and you'll be a mother of 2! How exciting! Debbie, I LOL about Maddy and sticking her tongue out! I know, I know... it's not funny and I will have my day not too far off. It's just that I picture this cute and sweet little innocent blonde sticking her tongue out. No... not Maddy!! Julianne, Boy, after a morning like you had on Friday, I think I would have called in and said I'm not coming in and then I would have stayed home, fixed pina coladas and take a bath in a bathroom that smelled like the tropics!! I hope your day went better! Leanne, YEA for Cynthia getting rid of her soother!! How sweet of DH saying what he did on the phone! It gives you warm fuzzies, doesn't it! My DH needs to be a little more emotional in that area as well! SarahG, GO ISAAC!! How did the rest of the weekend go with the potty training? Well, I guess I had better go. Oh- like I told Tracey, I too, will be a diary writer. So, if you don't get enough of me here (You probably get too much of me!!) you can see how I handle being a mom to Elizabeth! You guys take care and I hope you have a great week! Kelli & Elizabeth - 13 months yesterday! email: rkncs@aol.com Sunday, August 15, 1999 at 22:23:28 (MDT)) Good morning everyone. I had a nice relaxing weekend. Since Colton knows how to put himself back to sleep during the night he takes better naps too. I actually got a nap in both Saturday & Sunday! Our neighbors invited us to swim in their pool yesterday. Colton really liked it. He didn't seem scared at all. He did lots of splashing, luckily DH was holding him then. He even tried to blow bubbles in the water by sticking his face in it. Leanne: Yeah for Cynthia going off her soother. Great idea--cutting it and saying it was broken. So nice of DH to compliment you like that. Crystal: Congrats on the daycare job. I am so glad that you got it. It is great that you can bring Darrel with you. Sarahg: Isaac is doing great with his p/t. Hope you get into the html class. Tracey: Sorry to hear your throat is bothering you again. A trip to the ENT dr sounds like a wise plan. Can't help you on the runny nose problem, we have been chasing after Colton's nose for a week now. Baby lotion all over--what a mess! Hope Colton didn't give her the idea! Good luck with the daycare job. Kelli: Good job on Elizabeth learning her body parts. Too cute about the mouth and tongue. Wow, Colton & Elizabeth are only a few days apart. I too find myself just amazed watching him. Hope everone has a great start to their week. Julianne & Colton email: jjones@batts.com Monday, August 16, 1999 at 06:45:59 (MDT)) Ok, I'm new to the board. I have a son (Dustin 21 month old.) I'm having a little trouble with temper. He seem really head strong to me. Real determined. Potty Training is a straight NO!! What do you do? Missy email: terrym@safeconnect.com Monday, August 16, 1999 at 19:26:06 (MDT)) Missy- First of all welcome to the board. Secondly, my 3 year old daughter was the same way when it comes to temper and she is still like that. 21 months old is a bit early to be poty training. My oldest son was almost 3 as well as my daughter before they were potty trained. He will do it when he is ready to and nothing you do will make him do it if he does not want to and is not quite ready to do it. I know it does not seem right but I spanked my children and tried taking things away from them and nothing helped. They ust did it when they were ready to. Their brains sometimes just aren't ready. Tracey and Dillon 14 months in 2 days email: battnt@mindspring.com Monday, August 16, 1999 at 20:09:19 (MDT)) Hi everyone. Elizabeth is becoming more of a toddler day by day. She's just busy, busy, busy! There's no stopping her! Nothing much new happened today. Oh, except Elizabeth did do one thing that was too cute. I had a Veggie Tale video in for her and I stopped it and she looked at me, crawled over to me and took the remote control from me and shook her head 'no'. I just laughed! It was so funny. Julianne, It sounds like you had a nice weekend! That's great that you were able to get in a couple naps! Colton sounds cute with the blowing bubbles in the pool. Tracey, how's your throat? Well, I may not be able to post the next couple days. Our monitor is FRIED! It's acting up as I type so I hope there aren't any typo's. We've had it about 2 1/2 years and it's still under warrenty. We are going to take it to the Gateway store and order a new one. I think they ship it overnight or nextday air so hopefully, I will be back by Thursday. You guys take care and we'll talk to you later. Kelli and Elizabeth - 13 months email: rkncs@aol.com Monday, August 16, 1999 at 22:46:31 (MDT)) Hi moms, it's Megan. I'm sneaking over from BT to say hi to all my old friends! I miss you guys. By the time I make it over here, I won't know what's going on anymore. Oh well, each of you will just have to e-mail me weekly to let me know what's up. Ha, ha. I just sent out some pictures of Benjamin to many of you. Hopefully they won't take forever to download. I only sent two pics but the file looked big for some reason. If I missed anyone and you would like to see Ben, e-mail me! Time for bed. 1 year is right around the corner for us! Boo hoo. Megan and Benjamin (9 1/2 months) email: dtandmm@slkc.uswest.net Monday, August 16, 1999 at 23:12:25 (MDT)) I got to work early today. My neighbor asked me to drop her son off to football practice since her car is in the shop and his school is only 2 minutes from my work. I actually feel more awake getting up just 15 minutes earlier. Do any of you have problems with your toddlers putting everything in their mouth when outside? Colton does not like to try new foods, but leaves, sticks, sand, stones...outside go right into his mouth. Yesterday he tried biting the rubber swings, the wood on the swingset, and the edge of the shop vac when the lid was open. I even had to quick dig a stone about the size of a big grape out of his mouth. I don't dare leave his side when we are outdoors. Any idea how long this "phase" will last? I am so afraid he is going to get sick or choke on something. Yesterday when I came home I noticed my mom had emptied the dishwasher. I had not run it yet! All the dishes she put away were dirty. I scrub & rinse them before I load so they must have appeared clean to her. We had to try to find all the dishes and re-load! Dh was not happy. So I got to hear all about what is wrong with my family. Like his is perfect. It seems that I am always having to defend my family. Why can't he just accept them like I have accepted his? Sorry for the complaining but it just gets me how he is so judgemental towards my family. Kelli: How dare you stop Elizabeth's tape! Watch out, soon she will be running the VCR herself. Hope you get a new monitor fast. Missy: Welcome. My son is only 13 months, so no where near potty training age. However, he has a good temper at times. When he has an outburst we tell him no, set him down (if holding him) and walk out of the room. That way he no longer has an audience and his tantrums go away very quickly. Good luck. Tracey: I keep forgetting to write my recipe down at home. I will try to make sure I do tonight. Julianne & Colton 13 mo email: jjones@batts.com Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 06:15:56 (MDT)) Hi from Cathy G! We went up to the cottage last weekend with another family. It was Alison's first time, and she had a blast. She spent most of the time by the lake, picking up sand and splashing around. She loved it, and Emma was busy with the 2 boys, and also had a good time. We almost didn't go because the weather on Friday was wet, but Saturday and Sunday were beautiful. We went to the new East Side Marios when we got back and Alison devoured a whole child's portion of pasta - she ate more than Emma did. Cynthia - Our street is done, at last. Our number is 2114, so if you have a chance stop in. I have many pictures of Alison, but I don't have a scanner. Congratulations on your anniversary - I hope you celebrated well!! Beth - I broke my nose playing baseball 15 years ago, so I know how terrible that woman must have looked. I still cannot breathe properly through my nose. Hope you are having a good time in South Carolina. Tracey - So far once a week is okay for me (it's only been one week). Emma is only going to school for half days again this year, and both she and I wish it was for full days. She really needs the stimulation and I try to do some stuff in the afternoons, but often there isn't time. Julianne - Alison is a great one for putting things in her mouth too. We have small stones in our back and front yards and these used to go in all the time, but she is learning not to. Also sticks, pine cones etc. I don't think Emma did this, so I can't say how long it lasts, but I think by 16 - 18months they become less "oral". I hope you get good news after your interview. What kind of work do you do? That's all for me. I have masses of laundry to do after the weekend. Bye for now. Cathy G and Alison (12.5 months) email: davidalan.pratt@sympatico.ca Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 12:14:47 (MDT)) Hi everyone from Stacey! Long time no talk. Things have been hectic as usual. I am in a much better mood than the last time I posted (I was under A LOT of stress). I am pretty far behind so I'm not going to do much as far as personals. Franchesca is walking up a storm now. She also has cut her nap times significantly, but she is getting so tired from walking circles everywhere that she is now sleeping 10-12 hours at night. Yeah!! We also completely made the transition from formula to whole milk in the past few days. She was very constipated yesterday though, although she ate a whole banana so that could have caused it. Poor thing was just laying with her head on my shoulder and breathing as hard as she could trying to go potty. Did anyone else experience this when switching to cow's milk? I have done it gradually over the last few weeks so I didn't expect this to happen. As for me, I do not believe that I am going to make it to my due date (9-26). I am already feeling a lot of pressure on my cervix which my OB noticed as well, and the baby is in position. I have been having contractions on and off this AM so who knows...I am not ready for this to happen yet though. Hope you are all doing well. I will try to check in again soon and catch up :) Stacey, Franchesca and 1 on the way Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 13:35:10 (MDT)) Hello from Rita. Despite my manager being on vacation, I am really busy at work. Wow, and I thought that I would have boatloads of time to read and post! Ha ha. Maddy has been doing really well with potty-training at daycare, but still refuses to do much at home. I think that we are going to have to resort to bribery. It worked yesterday - she sat for five minutes to "earn" some tortilla chips. She has also been very clingy lately. She will climb up into my arms and want to be held like an infant. (This is a little hard with a 38 inch, 38 pounder. LOL) It has, however, re-established some of the close connection that was broken when Amy was born. After Larry has read her bedtime stories, she now takes the same books and "reads" them to me. Tracey - I sent my picture in for the Recipes Today Diary and they never posted it. I'll have to try again and maybe you will see what I look like. You know how it is with pictures - you are never in them because you are taking them. I just picked up some that we took on a trip to the aquarium with my mom. It doesn't look like I was on the trip because I am not in any of the shots. So much for that scrapbook page! Well, I have much more work to do. Take care everyone! Rita & Maddy(31 mos) email: ritad@home.com Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 13:44:53 (MDT)) Good Afternoon, its Debbie. The girls are in swimming lessons this week. Maddie is doing great. Emilee is getting use to the water. Dh accidentally let her jump into the water. DH, he thinks that stands for dick head. It sure did then. Tracey - I have a feeling Maddie is somewhat like Taylor. Maddie gets alot of "bedroom time" these days. Emilee was in her stationary entertainer the other day & Maddie decided she had to get in too. I heard Emilee crying loud, dropped what I was doing and found Maddie squeezed in there. I tried to pull Maddie, she wouldnt budge, then tired to pull Emilee out, she wouldnt budge either. I wrapped a arm around Maddie, one around Emilee, and Emilee pulled out first. Maddie was then sent to her room...screaming her head off. Kelli - You just wait girlfriend. Sweet little innocent Elizabeth will be there all too soon. I dont know why I am getting all this, I was a very good baby. LOL Missy & Dustin - Welcome & Good Luck! Megan - You're right, 12 mos is right around the corner. Where are our babies? Boo Hoo Rita - 5 minutes? Thats an eternity for my Maddie. I'll have to give that a try sometime. Here is a chicken recipe I've had for years. I dont know what its called, but its good. Debbie's Chicken Recipe 1 jar dried sliced beef 8 skinless, boneless chicken breast 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 pint sour cream 4 slices of bacon (optional) 1/4 cup sliced almonds Cover the bottom of dish with dried beef (rinse with water) Add chicken breasts. Place 1/2 slice of bacon on top of each chicken breast. Mix soup & sour cream, pour over chicken. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top. Add more if you like almonds. Bake @ 325 for 1 hour, 15 minutes. Enjoy! Hope you all are having a good day, talk to you soon. Debbie & Maddie email: gregndeb@qnet.com Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 15:54:00 (MDT)) Well good Tuesday afternoon my friends and my little angel babies as well. I hope that all the little ones slept well last night. I think Taylor and Dillon were awake half the night. I was so tired this morning when I had to wake up with Blake to get him ready for school. I slept until about 10 and I was still tired. Guess that will tech me to stay up so late at night but I just enjoy the peace and quiet so much that I do not want to go to bed. Well today is our 8th Anniversary and all went well. We didn't really do anything but we are going to go to Houston this weekend and go to Water World. We are going to take Blake with us and I know that we will have a nice time. We did have nice wonderful you know what this morning though so that was present enough for me. I went to talk to the preacher today and was planning my Baptism for a week from next Sunday and then I remembered the ENT appointment tomorrow so I will have to wait and see what is going to be done before that decision is made. It may have to be put off for a couple of weeks but I will be Baptized and I am really looking forward to that. Well the kids are fighting once again so they are about to go in time out. I got so tired of spanking them and it did no good so now it is time out without TV, and they cannot play, they can just sit or lay in their room for 5 minutes without saying anything unless it is to tell me that they need to go to the bathroom. Man, Dillon just stepped in doggie doo and it was really nasty and he had it all over his hands also. What fun it is to train a dog to go outside to the bathroom. I just got Taylor trained and now I have to do the same to the puppy. Here is my recipe for the week and it is really yummy: PECAN DELIGHT 1 stick butter (room temperature) 1 cup flour 1 cup pecans (chopped) Mix and pat in 13x9x2 inch pan. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes and then cool. 8 ounces cream cheese 1 cup Cool Whip 1 cup powdered sugar Mix and pour over cooled first layer. Next mix: 2 small packages chocolate pudding 3 cups milk Mix well and pour over cream cheese layer. Next spread top with Cool Whip and refrigerate. Options:Lemon pudding or coconut crème pudding and top with toasted coconuts over the Cool Whip. Pumpkin filling(2-Vanilla instant puddings and 1 can pumpkin) Kelli- I know what you mean about going and buying clothes for the babies. We didn't have to buy much for Dillon last year either but he has nothing for this winter. I am really looking forward to blowing Jay;s paycheck on it though. Elizabeth sounds so cute. We sit and watch our children for hours sometimes also. Oh yeah, my throat is still hurting and I will find out what the ENT says tomorrow. Tell Elizabeth that she can't do anything with the remote control, she is a woman. Dillon just goes and pushes the tape back in when I stop it and eject it. Julianne- I am so glad that you had a nice weekend and that you all got to take a nice swim. Colton sounds like Dillon in the water. He absolutely loves it and would live in it if I would let him. Dillon also puts everything in his mouth and before you know what he has he throws it in there as fast as he can. Last night he had the dogs pig ear in his mouth chewing on it. It was too gross. CathyG- Alison sounds like Dillon. He eats more than Taylor and Blake and I think he might eat more than me sometimes. He can never get enough food. Glad that you all had a nice time at the cottage. Sorry that Emma does not get to go to school all day. It is allot more challenging for Blake to go all day. He likes it allot better. Stacey- Well I hope that you will make it a while longer so you don't have to leave your baby in the NICU for weeks like I did Taylor because it is no fun at all. Taylor also was constipated by whole milk but she continued to drink it anyway. That is great that Franchesca is walking everywhere and sleeping so well for you. I am glad that you are not as stressed as last time. That is the last thing you need. Rita- Sorry about Maddy still not wanting to potty train. She still wants to be a baby because of Amy probably so that is why she will not go to the potty at home. It will get better soon. Thanks for the pics. She is adorable. Well gotta go cook supper now. Talk to you all later. Tracey and Dillon 14 months tomorrow email: battnt@mindspring.com Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 16:09:49 (MDT)) Hello from Sarah&Amanda!! Not much going on here- kids had their teeth cleaning at the dentist this AM,watched a friends son for her, brought DD out for ice-cream, and DS went to the beach to spend a couple days w/the neighbours son. So its quiet here, Amanda is having a late nap, had to wake her this AM for the dentist app.- hate it when that happens!!So she is catching up on her ZZZ's. STACEY- A belated congrats on the baby-on-the-way!! You definately will be busy- best wishes!! With Amanda I thought for sure she would be early- all the aches and pains that usually happen late in pregnancy started in the early 20-something wks. I ended up going 6 days overdue and induced- 'of course everyone is different'. I couldn't beleive I was going so late with her!!! Hope yours is early- gets really uncomfortable the 2nd and 3rd time around!! CATHY G- We were due the same time- Amanda was born on the 31st- I understand being too busy and not getting on here as often as you'd like, I usually read and don't get a chance to post! MISSY- Usually when kids are around 2-21/2 they get interested in the potty, I wouldn't worry, my son was later than my daughter- closer to 2-1/2-DD was 2-1/3. They say boys are later at training than girls.Lots of praise, a little bribery, lots of understanding, and knowing when to drop the subject so they don't get overwhelmed at hearing about the 'potty' all the time and you'll be fine- good luck!! Amanda is getting an 'attitude' when she wants something, to hold something, when I try and feed her etc.....--- so much fun!! Our friends came over this weekend and Amanda was trying to grab their son by the face- both the same age, poor little guy had a couple red lines on his face from her-- I don't know what she was trying to do!!!??? We had to watch her all night. Hope this is short lived! LATER!!! Sarah&Amanda@12.5mos(#3) email: !!!! Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 16:39:37 (MDT)) Hello everyone!!! Thanks for you advise. I'm learning that walking out of the room during a tantrum seems to help. I'm not worried about potty training him just yet, my mom tells me that we were trained long before that, and that I don't need to let him go through another winter in diapers. OH WELL!! Dusty is behind me in the process of mixing up the clean basket of clothes with the dirty one.(guess that means I'll probably end up washing all of the over again after he get through rolling on them. :) Hope everyone is doing well! I'm glad I found this board. I really enjoy this. We are going to try to have another child soon, I hope we don't make the baby and Dusty to close in age, Me, my brother and sister were all 4 years apart, and we were distance(not very close at all and we still aren't) What do you think is a good age difference? Well gotta go must make sure hubby gets off to work ok! Seeya!!! Missy & Dusty email: terrym@safeconnect.com Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 20:03:03 (MDT)) Hello again ladies. I just saw the funniest commercial on TV. It was for Staples and it was time for the kids to return to school and the father was buying their school supplies and the song," It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" was playing. The kids were giving their dad a really bad look. Okay, I have some great news. They are working on a site for early childhood. I wrote Elisa and she told me it will be up in the next few weeks. I am so glad for that. Now I will have a place to tell about Taylor and I won't be lost when Dillon is off this site. I know it will be a while but it will be hear before you know it. Missy- We had this discussion on here not long ago. I had my younger two 2 years apart and theya re really close. On the other hand, I waited to have my second about 3 1/2 years after my first and they are not close at all. I was 3 years older than my brother and we are not that close either. I love him and everything but we just do not talk much. So I would say about 2 years is good or maybe a bit more like 2 1/2 years so you better get busy. LOL Sarah- What is your real name? Please tell us. We will still call you Sarah but it is just bugging the you know what out of me. Boy Amanda does have quite a temper doesn't she? Sounds like Dillon there. He is always trying to bite Taylor and Blake and for no reason. He just gets pissed and they had better watch out. Well that is all my news for now. Going to go read now. Take care ladies. Tracey and Dillon 14 months tomorrow email: battnt@mindspring.com Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at 21:51:51 (MDT)) Julianne here. I had fun golfing last night with a group from work. DH had fun watching Colton. He usually ends up bring him over to his mom's for a while. They have a horse and he set Colton on him for the first time. Didn't like it! His Dad was cleaning out the pen with a back hoe so DH took Colton in the cab to watch. Didn't like that either! However, when he held Colton outside so he could see the bucket digging Colton laughed away. I finally got DH to change Colton's diaper with me home. Yeah! Every morning I am trying to get ready and when Colton gets up he needs to be changed. If I change him when I have my robe on he usually ends up pulling the tie and there I stand hanging out. I was in the middle of getting dressed and DH kept saying Colton needs his diaper changed. I would say to let me get dressed first. Then it got quiet. I went in Colton's room to find DH changing him. He even sits still for DH. As soon as I got his clothes out and started to take over Colton turned into Mr. Ansy Pants and wouldn't lie down anymore. Cathy G: Sounds like you had a fun water weekend. All that playing must have made Alison hungry. Hope you catch up on your laundry. It seems to really grow once you are behind. I am in Human Resources. Currenly I am the Benefits Manager for a manufacturing plant. We were bought out by our main competitor and they have decided to shut our plants down causing over 500 employees to lose their jobs! Since I am in HR I will be one of the last people to be let go. I do get a good severance package so I might be able to take some time off in between jobs. However, I wanted to get some interview practice and "see what's out there" so I have started to look around and interview. Stacey: Yeah for Franchesca walking and sleeping so good. Colton hasn't had any problems with constipation with switching to cow's milk. I usually add 2 oz of water to 6 oz of milk so it isn't so thick though. Colton has never eaten a whole bannana either, I am lucky if I can get him to eat a couple of small bites of one. Rita: Good luck with the bribes for potty training. My sister tried that route too and began to run out of things to bribe her with. She finally resorted to making her go to bed early if she had an accident, taking away her favorite toy, and not allowing her to watch certain TV programs/video tapes that she liked. That seemed to work OK. Finally they promised her a "big girls" bike and that did it! All you have to do is figure out what they really want--Ha Ha. Debbie: DH and I were just discussing when we should have Colton take swimming lessons. We decided to wait until next year when he will be closer to 2. Thanks for the recipe. Tracey: Happy Anniversary. Hope you have a great time in Houston at Water World. Good luck toilet training your puppy. Thanks for the recipe--I love anything with pecans, espically deserts. Dh & I saw that commercial too and we were LOL.--Too Cute. Sarah: I do not mean to sound dumb, but did you have Amanda's teeth cleaned too. How old should our toddlers be to bring them to the dentist? Missy: Colton too love the laundry basket. He dug one of DH's socks out the other day and has been carrying it around the house for 2 days now. Luckily it was out of the clean basket. I keep forgetting to look up my recipe at home and write it down. So here is one that you don't need to be too accurate on measurements! Heavenly Chocolate No Bake Cookies 1 bag of semi-sweet choclote chips 1 bag of butterscotch chips 1 small can of shoestring potatos 1 small bag (1-2 cups) of blanche peanuts Melt the chips in a double boiler until smooth and then add the peanuts and shoestring potatos. Remove from heat as soon as everything is well coated. Drop onto wax paper. Put is fridge to cool. (Freezer if you want one right away!) Enjoy. I even won 3rd place in a cooking contest at our local library with this recipe when I was in Junior High! Still have the ribbon. Ok, I am going. Sorry for the long post. It's SO slow and most of the time there's some failed connection to the server or something. So, I'm finally getting to post now. I'm amazed I've gotten this far with this machine today!! Isaac is potty trained!!! No accidents since that one on his first day in training pants. Yippee! He trained himself, really. He's doing great- we just have to travel with his potty, which is a little interesting sometimes. He's even sleeping better and napping better. Things got crazy for him during the potty transition, I guess. Rita- Is everything going ok in the Bay Area? Heard about the quake... Got to go now- kids are up and busy Post more later if this computer still wants to work! Sarah g email: gat_men@hotmail.com Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 09:26:33 (MDT)) Hello from Sarah&Amanda!! Went to the eye doctor today and the orhtodontist for DD to see the cost for 'phase 2' of her treatment.$$$$$$!!!!!! Amanda was full of energy at the eye doctors, especially b/c they were 35 minutes late taking me! Hate that! I read in 'working mother'(??) think that was it- at the waiting rm., that the average age to begin talking is 12 mos- normal range is 10-24mos- hope that puts all your minds at ease. SARAH G- Congrats on the potty training!!!!! JULIANNE- No, Amanda didn't get her teeth cleaned,my 11&13 year olds did. They went when they were in kindergarten, a little late I know.Maybe around 3-4yrs?? TRACEY-My kids said when they first saw that commercial- hey thats what mom does!!! Its so funny- he looks a little excited!!My real name is 'Helen'. MISSY- I also agree-2yrs is a good space- my older kids are 24 mos apart- both Feb. babies. Amanda is awake--LATER!!! Sarah&Amanda@12-1/2mos(#3) Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 13:09:36 (MDT)) Hi everyone. My name is Judy and I'm new to the Toddler's board. I'm currently pg and due on 10/25 so I spend most of my "Moms Talk time" on the pregnancy board. My son is Elijah and is 15 months. He's an active little guy--well, not so little; he's currently 32 inches and 32 lbs. He loves to eat and talks all the time. He carries on wonderful conversations. I just wish I knew what he was talking about!! He has recently learned to walk and I bought him his first pair of shoes a few weeks ago. He took to them right away--thankfully!! I was afraid of having to struggle with him, but I didn't have to. Here's my concern that I hope you mommies can help me with. E doesn't like to share. He tries to take toys away from other children his age and when a struggle ensues, he'll bite the other child or grab a fist full of their clothes and pull. He screeches when he doesn't get his way. I hate to see this kind of aggression in such a young child. I don't want him to be mean and angry and I don't know what to do. My MIL says it's normal for his age, but I don't know about that. I'm going to read up as much as I can about his age group and his behavior. I'm also going to call his pediatrician for suggestions, but in the meantime, I'm writing here for help from you all too. I recently had to pull E out of his in-home day care that he's been in since he was 6 months. The daycare provider/friend of ours gave us her 2 weeks notice because of an incident that happened at her house with my DH. It's kind of a long story and I can go into that another time. The affect on E was that the daycare providers' 2 boys, aged 11 and 8, were ignoring him and wouldn't play with him anymore. He's currently being babysat by my Mom until he starts at KinderCare on 8/30. I'll plan on popping back in here to the Toddler's board tomorrow. It'll be hard to fit in this board and the pg board, but I really need to help my son through this. Or maybe moreso to help myself through this!! Judy and Elijah (15 months) email: jhintz@manu.com Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 14:20:21 (MDT)) Hello from Rita. I am at home this afternoon, because I forgot to bring my breastpump to work. I had to stay for a meeting until noon and headed home. Of course, the bridge that I usually take was closed due to a sulphuric acid spill and I had to drive the long way home. So, I am not going back to work today! Sarah g - I didn't even feel the quake. I was vaccuming and didn't notice a thing until DH called out that we had had an earthquake. Since it was on the San Andreas fault, so it was very minor here on the Hayward fault. All the same, we need to complete our emergency planning here at home. We are more worried about a 7+ quake than Y2K. Julianne - I think that some M&Ms might do the trick since we don't keep much chocolate around here.(I would eat it) I don't want to punish her by taking things aways, so we are going to teach her about earning "points" to do or get things she likes, like movies and ice cream. Judy - Fifteen months is really too young to get the concept of sharing. According to the books I have read on discipline, the concept doesn't really take hold until a child is around four. I just monitored Maddy's interactions as best I could and had her "trade" toys with others when she was younger. This is a big issue in our house these days, since she has a hard time sharing with her 7 month old sister. Tracey - I hope that you had a good anniversary! As a working mom, the crockpot is one of my best friends. Here's one of our favorites: Caribbean Chicken Soup with Bananas 1 med onion, chopped 3 large carrots, sliced 1 green bell pepper, cut into strips 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips 2 med zucchini, sliced 4 plum tomatoes, chopped 6 cups of chicken stock (or 1 49 1/2 oz can) 1 15 oz can of whole kernel corn, drained 3/4 cup of converted rice Caribbean spice Mix:(1 T paprika, 1 T chili powder, 1 T ground cumin, 1 1/2 T dried thyme, 1/2 t garlic powder, 1/4 t curry powder, 1/4 t turmeric, 1/4 t oregano and a pinch of cayenne) 2 cups cooked chicken or turkey breast, cut into strips 3 bananas, sliced Put all of the ingredients, with the exception of the chicken and the bananas, in a 6 quart crockpot, mixing them well. Cover and cook on low heat 6 to 7 hours, or until the rice is tender. Stir in the chicken. Ladle the soup (more like stew, really) over some sliced bananas in each bowl. This really makes a complete meal when you have some great bread or biscuits with it. T=tablespoon t=teaspoon Well, gotts go. Take care everyone. Rita & Maddy(31 mos) email: ritad@home.com Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 15:42:14 (MDT)) Hello All from Becky and Harley. I'm really happy to join you all and I recognize a lot of the names from BT. Well Harley turned 1 on Friday the 13th and we had a great little party. Just me, DH and birthday boy, a dear friend, Jesse May and the neighbors stopped by. My parents came over the next day. Harley had a great time and his theme was Big Yellow Smiley Faces on his plates, hats, napkins and wrapping paper. We also blew up balloons and decorated the house with them and there were balloons on his cake. He had a really good time and loved the decorations and opening his presents. We got him a little tykes rocking cow and an Elmo cement truck that makes popcorn noises when you push it and some more board books. I also bought him some new clothes. The neighbors brought him a Babe talking pig and our friend Jesse May brought him an electronic counting toy and a Franklin Mint Harley Davidson Pocket Watch (He will get that when he is older.) My Dad brought him a big rubber 4 square ball which he loves. We took Harley to the park after he opened the presents and he fell in love with a little 2 year old hispanic girl there. He had fun and then we went home and had cake. We helped him blow out the candle and let him play with the cake but he really wasn't that messy. I think he was pretty tired by then (4:30 with no nap). Anyway we had a great day and took lots of pictures. I look forward to posting here and comparing notes on how our little guys are doing. Anyone with pictures I would love to see them. I'm getting Harley's one year pictures done soon so I will be able to send his out if they offer a disk. Take care everyone. Becky & Harley - 1 year old! email: bsmisek@scfair.org Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 17:07:11 (MDT)) Well hello there all my fellow friends. I am feeling pretty good today. Don't know why since I am getting my tonsils taken out probably next week. I will find out exactly what day it will be tomorrow. I didn't have time to schedule it and go get my lab work done today so I will tackle that tomorrow. I know that it will be no walk in the park but in the long run it will help me allot. Well I have Taylor in the bed already but Blake and Dillon are still awake. Blake will be heading off to bed in 10 minutes though and then Dillon at around 10 I think. He took a late nap and didn't wake up until 6 something so I don't want to go throw him in bed when I know that he will not fall asleep for a good while. Well I got a call from a lady today and in a couple of weeks I am going to start selling Avon. Please, everyone wish me luck. I don't know a whole lot of people but I am going to try my best to meet some new people and get this thing going. It will help allot if I can get some people to start buying it from me. Any of you interested? LOL I have heard of many people selling it over the computer. I will just be glad to make $200 a month. Any ideas? Well Dillon is a bit cranky still. I don't know if those teeth are ever going to come all the way in. They are all broken through some but not all the way. Dillon clapping and saying YAY right now. He is just too cute for words. Now he is watching a commercial and dancing. He really should be in movies. Well he is 14 months old today so that means in 1 more months that it will be time for more shots. YUCK! I will be glad to see how much he weighs though. I am sure it is close to 25 pounds. Becky- Glad to see you and Harley here finally and HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to him. I knew that you would be here before long. So glad to have you. It sounds like Harley really had a nice but simple birthday. That is what we should have done for Dillon but my family would have freaked. So he is already falling in love huh? Better watch out for him. Sounds like he got allot of neat presents. Good for him. Rita- So you all had an earthquake? Sorry to hear that but at least you didn't have to go back to work. Your recipe sounds good and yes I did have a nice Anniversary. Thank you. Judy- I remember you from BT. I didn't even know that you were pg again. Seems it is in the air. I am surprised that he took to his shoes so well. DH makes Dillon wear shoes most of the time because he said that it is bad for them not to wear shoes. He used to sell them and knows what can happen if they go without shoes for too long. Elijah is normal in not sharing, remember, he is still a baby. When he bites and pulls on the other child just tell him that is bad and he is hurting the other child and that is wrong. Sorry to hear that Elijah had to go to a different daycare provider. Sarah- Glad to finally know what your real name is. Yes that is probably me on that commercial also. I do enjoy the lack of fighting with Blake in school. SarahG- Way to go Isaac. Why couldn't it be that easy for all of us? Julianne- Colton didn't like that big scary horse huh? I am sure that Dillon would love it. He is such a boy. Not scared of much. Funny that Dh just now changed a diaper with you at home. We always take turns and DH does not fuss about it. He tried that with our first but now I don't take that anymore. Your recipe sounds good and easy. Well I will go for now. Tracey and Dillon 14 months email: battnt@mindspring.com Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 19:21:51 (MDT)) Hello everybody!! Thanks Tracy, Juliane, & Sarah. Thats what I thought, I really want Dustmite to be close with his brother or sister, I missed out on that. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but were are just not close, we all have our own little worlds. I had a pretty good day today, me and the boss went out to get info on some state appraisals, so I spent the whole day out of the office, and thats a nice change. I really don't like to be chained to the telephone. Dusty is growing like a weed. It seem like he went from 11 pounds 2 oz, to 35 pounds overnight instead of 21 months. He is wearing bigger clothes than his 3 yr old cousin. (so much for hand-me-downs. Of course my next child won't be any smaller. I guess it runs in the family. Well gotta go. It's almost 10 o'clock, and mornings do come tooooo soon LOL :) I'll post again tommorrow...... BYE! Missy & Dusty email: terrym@safeconnect.com Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at 20:22:05 (MDT)) Good morning mommies & babies. I just love this sleeping through the night. DH got up around 5am and I didn't even hear him. (He told me this AM) My Grandma is 80 years old and we have her watch Colton on Wednesdays. It really makes my DH nervous because he worries about her having a heart attack or stroke or something and Colton being outside and wandering off into the pond or road... He wants to me see if daycare will take Colton another day. I hate to do that. She loves the time she gets to spend with him. She stays very active and I think that is what keeps her going. Also, she is great with him. She doesn't like to watch tv so he gets 100% attention all day long. She sings and plays with him so good. He always learns something new when she watches him. Yesterday she would say "Knock, Knock, Who's There?" and he would knock on the door with his little fist. Oh so cute! DH was even impressed. What would you mommies do? Keep Grandma or switch to daycare? Also, once it is October she wont be doing it any longer because my mom will be able to. She doesn't watch him in the winter either because she won't drive in snow--I don't blame her. She lives about a half hour away. SarahG: Congrats on Isaac's potty training success! Judy: Welcome to you and Elijah. I too have read that babies & toddlers do not understand the concept of sharing. They really do think that all toys are theirs. I don't think it is fair to "punish" them for not understanding. However, he needs to know that biting, hiting and screeching to get his way is not right. I suggest to make him think what he is doing hurts you. Take him away from the situation, set him down, tell him he is making mommy sad, and walk away from him. Good luck. Becky: Welcome to the toddler side. Sounds like Harley had a great b-day celebration. Falling in love already--too cute. Tracey: So you are getting your tonsils out. Hope that solves your throat problems. Just think at least you get to eat lots of ice-cream! Good luck selling AVON. They have lots of nice products. Dillon sounds like such a ham clapping and dancing. Take care everyone. Julianne & Colton 13mo email: jjones@batts.com Thursday, August 19, 1999 at 07:43:42 (MDT)) Crystal and Darrel here. My new job is going well. Darrel is having fun playing with the other kids in his class. He is the oldest, but there are three more babies not far behind him. One will be a year in a few weeks, and the other two will be a year in October. There is also a 5 month old whose mom will not allow to play on the floor. I do have a problem, however. Darrel refuses to nap at the daycare. I'm home in the morning, so he naps then. But by the middle of the afternoon, he's totally exhausted and just sits there. He will not sleep. As soon as we get in the car to go home, he's out like a light. I'll put in bed when we get home at 7:00, and he sleeps all night. He'll wake up around 8 in the morning and still be very sleepy and cranky. So, I'll put him down again at 9:30 (which is when the other babies at day care take their morning nap) and wake him at 11:00 so we both can get ready to go. Now, Darrel is sleep deprived. He won't even eat much because he's so tired. Normally for breakfast, he'll eat a whole banana, a handful of Cheerios, two slices of toast, a cup of milk, a cup of juice, a handful of Goldfish, and 6 mini-pancakes. All he had this morning was a banana and a cup of milk. Darrel won't even eat dinner because he's too tired. This is very unusual for Darrel. Is there anything that I can do? I know that Darrel needs more than 15 hours of sleep. I've thought of keeping him awake in the morning and have tried to, but I couldn't do it. He got so cranky and was so tired by 10:00 that if I even called his name or looked at him wrong, he'd start screaming. I've thought of taking him out of day care and having a friend baby-sit him, but she has her hands full already because she has her baby and two others. Plus, she's pregnant and still gets a lot of morning sickness. Any help with this will be greatly aprreciated. My mom has an adominal hernia and has to have surgery to get it removed. Please keep her in your prayers. Sorry no personals. I'll post more later. Crystal and Darrel 1 in 4 days email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Thursday, August 19, 1999 at 09:03:24 (MDT)) Hi Mommies, it’s Judy and Elijah, I hope to alleviate some of my fears next week when I talk to Elijah’s new teacher at KinderCare. She’s on vacation this week. I want to know how she handles sharing among the children. Elijah will be with ages 16 to 24 months. I dropped off a medical form at KinderCare this morning. My visit was unannounced. The Asst. Director said I could drop off the form on his first day but I told her I wanted to see the place again. I’m having doubts as to whether I’m making the right decision for him. DH and my Mom both were there last week for Elijah’s play visit and they liked what they saw too. I guess as the 30th approaches, I’m worrying about him making the adjustment and being treated lovingly. Here are my personals: Tracey and Dillon – It’s so nice to be remembered!! Poor Dillon with those teeth. I hope they hurry up and come all the way in. Elijah only has 7 at this point. I’m glad to know that I’m doing the right thing with putting shoes on him. I wish I could help you with the AVON, but I don’t wear make-up. Good luck with it. Becky and Harley – Happy Birthday to Harley!! Is there a story behind his name? Maybe something to do with the motorcycles? Julianne and Colton – That’s a tough decision. If she’s in good health and active with Colton during the day, it probably is doing them both a world of good. I’d stay with her since it’s only until October. Maybe your Grandma could call you at certain times during the day to let you know how he’s doing and if you don’t get a call from her, you could call to find out if everything is ok. Crystal and Darrell – I’ve been having the same concerns for Elijah when he starts his new daycare on the 30th. He’s going to have to give up his morning nap and take one long afternoon nap. I’m worried for him. How long has Darrell been trying to adjust to the new schedule? The Asst. Director and KinderCare said it would take Elijah about week to adjust. That doesn’t seem like enough time. Judy and Elijah (15 months) email: jhintz@manu.com Thursday, August 19, 1999 at 11:04:37 (MDT)) Crystal and Darrel here. Judy: I've only been woring there since this past Monday. Darrel iis given plenty of opportunities to sleep, but he refuses to. I think that iit's because he's in a new environment. Normally Darrel adjusts very well to new situations. I think that he's more excited than anything. I wor in the infant room for a couple of hours each day. Darrel has to stay in the crib during naptime until there's at least one oother child awake. It doesn't matter how much he screams and cries, which he only does when he sees some one just because he wants to play some more. It depends on the child as too how long it takes to adjust to a new day care situation and on how the teachers handle the child during the adjustment period. If a child is visibly upset then the teachers and parents normally try to work together to help the child adjust. We had one 2 year old who couldn't adjust. She had very severe separation anxiety, and we did all that we could to help her. Her sister was in the infant room. The 2 year old had such a difficult time adjusting that she refused to talk. All she would do was cry and throw tantrums and try to get into the infant room to her sister. Her mom ended up taking her out of the day care because she couldn't adjust. That's the extreme. Darrel never really had much of a separation anxiety. He's always been exposed to strangers and is fine with it. It takes Darrel only about an hour or two to adjust to a new face. Sometimes, it's not even that long. I take Darrel to places where I may knoow some people but he won't as often as I can to have him used to strangers. He won't go to strangers very often, but he will allow strangers to hold him and take care of him. I took today off work because Darrel was running a fever and his breakfast didn't stay down. I took him to the dr., and he said that Darrel probably just had an upset stomache, which would explain why he wouldn't eat this morning. His fever is just due to teething, but I stayed home the whole day so that Darrel can get some sleep. And sleeping is what he's been doing pretty much all day today. That's fine because he needs it. If he doesn't get enough sleep, then he won't develop properly because he won't be eating and will be too tired to do anything. Plus, he could get sick. Not a good thing. I'll be here officially in four days. Darrel will then be a toddler, even though he thinks he'll be a teen soon. well, that's all for now. Crystal and Darrel 1 in 4 days email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Thursday, August 19, 1999 at 16:31:08 (MDT)) "It's raining. It's pouring. The old man is snoring." That's right. It's not just rain, though. It's a severe thunderstorm warning!!!! Now,, how's that? Well, gotta go. Crystal and Darrel 1 in 4 days email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Thursday, August 19, 1999 at 17:18:22 (MDT)) Hello ladies. I bet that you can't guess who this is. LOL I always start my posts with the same old boring sentence. Oh well, that should just tell you all that I am a boring person. I doubt very seriously that DH would think that though. I keep him on his toes all the time. Well today I only let Dillon have one nap so that he would go to sleep at a decent time instead of 1AM like last night. He did not want me to lay him down in bed but he was SO tired. Everything was fine when I had him in my arms holding him but the minute I laid him down he would scream bloody murder. He sure does love his mommy and lately that has been his favorite word. =) Well today I went to the doctors office and found out that I will be having the tonsillectomy next Friday first thing in the morning. The minute I walked out the door Dillon started crying for me so I wound up taking him along with me. He had allot of fun when we were there in the waiting room. There were some other kids there and one little girl was the same size as Dillon but a bit thinner. Well he was flirting with her and it was so cute. He was walking to her and bobbing his head from one side to the other. And then he was dancing for her. When she was yelling he would have to yell and when she would hit the table then he would have to do it also. He was screaming at her too. It was so cute and he was so upset when they left. He tried to follow her. Blake is at his friends house and he had better be home before 8 or he will not be going back on a school night. I made sure that he finished his homework before he left or he would not have been going. I always make him do his homework before he can play or do anything like that. That way I will not have to fight with him to do it later. He is doing really good though. Wait for a few more weeks when it starts to get harder. I am sure that he and I will be going round and round then. Crystal - Glad that you are liking work so much. Sorry that Darrel is not doing so well with his naps though. I am not sure if it is the daycare though. Dillon has been doing the same thing. Sorry that he was not feeling too well today. Also, please send some of that rain our way. It has been well over a month since we have had rain and we need it terribly. Judy- I am sure that Elijah will do well at his new daycare. I assure you that all will be fine. I know what you are going through though. I went through the same thing with Blake and I hated leaving him there. He is our only child that has gone to daycare. Julianne- I think I would stick with grandma since it will just be until July. He is getting so much attention from her and she loves her time with him. It would break her heart to not allow her to keep him anymore. Colton sounds so cute. I am excited about selling Avon even though I do not wear make-up most of the time. I only do it on special occasions. Well I hope that everyone will get back here soon. It has been very slow and boring lately. Where is Kelli, Beth, Cynthia, Leanne, Romaine and everyone else? Both boards have been very slow today, so I've been on both boards several tiimes already. Maybe everyone's enjoying good weather? Tracey: Sorry, but I'm enjoying the rain too much. I'll send it to you tomorrow. I should be sick of it by then. I'll tell you one thing, though, it feels sooo good outside right now. It feels like the temp has dropped about 10 degrees. I was actually shivering a few minutes ago when I let my parents' dog out. I think that it is day care. Darrel naps fine in the morning and did right until I started working. He's been sleeping all day today, and I've been lletting him because he needs it. Darrel normally sleeps about 18 hours a day. He's like me when it comes to sleeping. He loves his sleep. Well, I gotta go. The storm is getting bad. It's trully a thunderstorm. Lots of lightening and rain, too. DH got our internet hassles figured out- something about a feature in the MSwindows program for networks of computers that our ISP doesn't support- I don't really know, but it works again :) I went out to lunch with a friend and my kids today, it was really nice, except my kids were totally out of their element. Isaac was a little cranky and Sofia cried. It was really loud there, and crowded, not such a great place for kids. Still enjoyed getting out, and then getting my kids back home. Rita- Carribean Chicken Soup sound awesome! Looking forward to trying it. Judy- Hi, welcome. I know that when DS was 15 mo, I was babysitting a 10 mo old and it was a nightmare for us. Isaac bit the baby (daily!!) and sharing was impossible. I tried and tried different things to get him to stop, finally he just grew out of it and doesn't bite at all. Thank goodness; sharing however is still a challenge most of the time (he's 27 mo now). Just hang in there with Elijah, I think it's usually just a phase. Tracey- Ouch! Sorry to hear about your tonsils! I hope you'll be feeling much better once that's done with. Just remember to get lots of help around the house from DH for your recovery. :) Best of luck with selling AVON. Hope it works out nicely for you. Julianne- Wow, you had Colton up on a horse! I've never even thought of getting Isaac up on one yet. I think I'm too scared! He loves the tractors, too. He cruises around with my dad on his and is just tickled by it. I think if you're comfortable with your grandma watching Colton, trust your instincts. It sounds like it's probably a great opportunity for both of them. It's wonderful that she's so active! Crystal- Congrats on your job! I bet Darrel will adjust with his sleeping patterns. It's so hard to watch them so miserable, though. Just make sure to keep him as healthy as you can. We had the worst luck with ear infections and colds with Isaac this winter, when Isaac was in daycare and I was working. Here's my recipe, my grandma makes it the best... LOL Angel Hair Pomodori 16 fresh roma tomatoes 1 lb. can tomatoes, packed in puree 1 bunch fresh basil 8 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 T salt or less 1 t pepper 2 lb. angel hair pasta For the sauce, peel tomatoes and dice into 1/4 inch cubes. Chop the canned tomatoes finely and add to the fresh tomatoes. Chop the basil and add to the mixture. Add garlic, oil, salt, pepper. Simmer for 15 min. For the pasta, cook angel hair in about 10 quarts boiling salted water for 1 1/2 min. Drain well. Mix with sauce and serve immediately. Serves 8 or cut ingredients in half to serve 4. Add lots of parmesan cheese on top! Sleep fairy is taking over me now. Goodnight! Sarah g and Isaac email: gat_men@hotmail.com Friday, August 20, 1999 at 00:14:51 (MDT)) Good Friday morning everyone, it's Cynthia I'm "talking" to you from home since I'm on vacation this week. It is now 8:00 am and I've been up since 6:00am. Keith has gone to work and Adam is still sleeping. The two older boys are with their father and DD has gone to Toronto for a mini vacation. So I sit here all alone...what peace and quiet!!!!! My house work is all done (except for laundry). I guess I should use this time to take a shower without Adam. He loves to come in the shower with me, but always insists on being held the whole time. Kind of makes it hard to wash and rinse. CRYSTAL: I think you should give Darrel more time to adjust to his new surroundings. Although you've exposed him to strangers and lots of people, he's probably never spent alot of time with so many babies. Give him time and he will adjust. Your boy sure likes his breakfast!!! I don't think I could eat all of that. It's nice that you have a job now. Keeps your mind off of stuff and you still get to keep an eye on Darrel. TRACEY: Good luck with the tonsillectomy. I wish I had the guts to get mine out. I know, I'll come down to Texas and we'll both get them out together. Trouble is, we won't be able to do much talking!!! Good luck with the AVON too. I LOVE the Skin SO Soft bath oil. I use it all the time. I don't wear their make-up, but I do buy other stuff from them. My friend sells it and she does pretty well. The good thing is, the stuff sells it self. No pressure from you. I think you'll do well. My friend also sells Tupperware and Candles, but those require you to have home parties and not alot of people like to do that. CATHY G: How was the new East Side Mario's?? Next Friday we're going to the new Casey's. Have you tried that yet? Looks like the Future Shop is moving into that new mall alos so I guess there will be a new store at SHopper's City East. It's about time we got some new stuff around here. Now if they's just put a Wal-Mart near us, that would be great. I heard rumours that Wal-Mart was looking to buy the land across from Costco (where Laidlaw is). Is Emma all excited to start school? It's too bad you don't have that option of letting your child attend all day kindergarten. When Jesse went, he went all day on alternate days. That got pretty confusing sometimes. Wen we moved here from our old house, I actually got mixed up and forgot to send him in that day. Glad to hear your street is construction free!!! Maybe I'll see you one day. I'd hate to just pop in unannounced. But school starts soon and if it's anything like last year, I'll be driving by your street fairly often. Jordan is always forgetting something. Well, it's 8:30 and Adam is still asleep so I'm going to take my shower now. I'll talk to you all later. Cynthia and Adam @ 20 months Friday, August 20, 1999 at 06:31:02 (MDT)) Happy Friday to everyone. I am not having a good start to my day. Bad hair day, clothing crisis--nothing fits right. I am so sick of this. You know how excited I was the other week when I said I had made it down to my pre-prego weight. The pounds have snuck back on:( I have to be in public wearing a swimsuit tomorrow and not feeling good about it today. We are going tubing down the Muskegon River with 6 other couples. MIL is watching Colton for the whole day. Should be lots of fun. We have gone canoeing the last 2 years but decided to be lazy and try tubing this year instead. Yesterday when I picked Colton up from daycare the lady in charge wanted to know if there was a specific way they should be feeding Colton. Evidently for lunch he had 2 cups of milk and a few crackers but wouldn't eat anything else. I just told her he does not do will with table food yet but to keep trying. I am hoping seeing the other toddlers eat table food he will start to improve. Also, he still has only 4 teeth and never has gummed his food very well. I really hope he gets more teeth soon and then can eat better. My friend, Carrie, who is pg with the triplets called last night to let me know that they have hospitalized her. All 3 are in 1 sac and the middle baby is lots bigger than the other 2. They are afraid that she is hogging all the food. If the other 2 don't grow more in the next 2 weeks they will take the babies. They will be 33 weeks! They range from 2-3 pounds right now. Please keep her in your prayers. Judy, Tracey, Missy & SarahG: Thanks for your input on the Grandma issue. I want to keep her for Wednesdays. I am going to talk to DH more about it this weekend. Crystal: Hope Darryl feels better soon. Glad he is getting lots of sleep tonight. Watch out he might keep you awake all night! I will pray that all goes will with your mom's surgery. Tracey: Dillon is going to be a girl magnet! Cynthia: Hope you enjoyed your week of vacation. I find that they are never long enough though. Have a great weekend everyone. I will be thinking of you as I am soaking me feet and behind in the water while floating down the river! Julianne & Colton 13 mo email: jjones@batts.com Friday, August 20, 1999 at 07:27:19 (MDT)) Hi from CathyG - I took Emma and Alison and one of Emma's friends to the museum this morning and Alison fell asleep on the way home - only for about 5 minutes. Anyway, she is now in her crib shouting, can't seem to fall asleep. Judy - kids cannot understand the concept of sharing at 15 months, definately not until about 3 or 4 and even then have problems with it when the stakes are high! Try distraction, by presenting another toy. Tracey - Happy anniversary! I wish you luck with your tonsils. I have a lady on my street who sells Avon, and she puts the books into all the mailboxes on the street. I hadn't used anything from Avon before, but have bought stuff from her occasionally, so you might try that. Julianne - I think you should keep Colton with Grandma - he and she are both lucky to have the opportunity to spend time together. Crystal - I will pray for your Mom. Cynthia - Eastside Marios was fine. Haven't tried Caseys yet, but we will soon, I'm sure. The highlight for me is the new Chapters, and especially the Starbucks - I love Frappucinos. Bye for now Cathy CathyG and Alison (12.5 months) email: davidalan.pratt@sympatico.ca Friday, August 20, 1999 at 11:38:06 (MDT)) Hello from Sarah&Amanda!! BECKY- Happy birthday to Harley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRYSTAL-Hope your mom's surgery goes well. JULIANNE-Sounds like Colton and Grandma are having lots of fun together, I agree, as long as her health is good and she can keep up with him let her keep babysitting- its good for her! The dental hygenist yesterday said to bring in Amanda at about three yrs old since they have all their teeth then.Hope your friend holds on a few more weeks with all those babies!!! They must be running out of room, and we think one is bad! :0)Hope everything goes well for her- I'll be thinking of them all! TRACEY&JULIANNE- I rented 'you've got mail' for tonight. I'll let you know what we thought! A couple nights ago, we rented 'a cool dry place', it was about a father whose wife leaves him and their son, meets someone else..... it was good.We have a sattelite dish so its so easy to hit the 'ok' button and 'rent' movies all the time. It is cheaper than the movie store and there's no late fee for forgetting to return it! Thats it for now, Check in tomorrow- Have a good weekend all!! LATER!!!! Sarah&Amanda@12.5mos(#3) Friday, August 20, 1999 at 16:54:49 (MDT)) Hey everyone... I am so sorry I haven't been on in a while. My computer monitor is fried and we are waiting on a new one to be shipped to us. Thank goodness that it was still under warrenty! I am at DH's work right now on a Friday night because I was having computer withdrawels! Pretty pathetic, huh? Not much is new here... We rented Deep end of the Ocean last night! It was good but it was very hard to watch. I started bawling in the first 10 minutes! Well, I better go. I probably won't be back until we get our monitor. I sure hope it's soon! I'm dying here! I hope you all are doing great! I sure miss ya! Kelli & Elizabeth - 13 months email: rkncs@aol.com Friday, August 20, 1999 at 20:15:10 (MDT)) Hello mommies!! My name is Lynn, and I'm not even a mommy... yet!! I'm not quite ready for this board yet, but I would like to "pick your brains" a little! I was wondering if any of you work from home, or know of any legit work-from-home jobs that might be available. I'm on a desperate search for a job I can do at home, b/c I don't want to leave my daughter, but I cant afford to stay home, and not work. My DH is skeptical (sp??) about these work-at-home jobs, he thinks they're all scams, but he said if I found someone who does it, he'd be more willing to hear my case on it. So, anyone with any info, please email me w/ any suggestions, ideas, or info you might have on this subject. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!!! Lynn & Alexandria, due in 7 days!! email: pzas1@snet.net Saturday, August 21, 1999 at 08:47:39 (MDT)) |
