Crafts to Make for Your Little One

By Terri Bose

Pages:  1  2  3

You don't have time to scrapbook, and you don't know how to knit. And the only rubber stamps in the house belong to your 2-year-old. What to do? Steal an hour of time while the kids are napping and try one of these fun projects you can make for your little ones. You'll find most everything you need around the house.

Make Better Blocks
Transform your tired old wooden blocks into your child's favorite new toy.

You'll Need:

  • wooden blocks
  • family photos
  • white glue
  • foam brush
  • disposable bowl

Here's What You Do
Pour some white glue into a disposable bowl and thin with a little water. Cut a photo down to fit on a block. Using a foam brush, spread a layer of the white glue mixture over the face of a block. Place the photo on the block and spread a layer of white glue over the photo. Let dry. Continue with additional photos.

Variations
Cut out pictures of your child's favorite characters, toys or treats to add to the blocks. Add names or words to the back of the blocks for early readers.

Popcorn Tin Kiddie Seat
The popcorn has been finished since January and you still have the tin lying around. Turn it into a seat for your child – complete with a storage compartment for her favorite toys.

You'll Need:

  • large popcorn tin
  • 1/2 yard of fabric
  • cotton batting
  • low temperature hot glue gun

Here's What You Do
Open and close the tin many times to loosen the seal. This will make it easier for a child to open and close the tin. Cut four pieces of cotton batting the same size as the tin lid. Cut a 13-1/2-inch circle out of fabric. Center all four pieces of cotton batting on the lid. Center the fabric on top of the batting.
