Homemade Memories

Ornament Making for Little Fingers

By Terri Bose

Pages:  1  2

What fun it is each year to unpack the kids' homemade ornaments! Looking them over always brings back good memories. When they start school, you get a new one every year, but it's also nice to have keepsakes from their baby years.

Children as young as 2 can make a simple ornament to hang proudly from your tree. Try one of these project ideas with your toddler and watch while a big smile lights up his face. These projects have small objects. If your child still puts things in his mouth, wait a year before attempting one of them. Of course, all children will need close supervision.

CD Ornaments

You'll Need:
Two CDs you don't need
Gold cord
White gem glue
Low-temp glue gun
Gemstones
Disposable bowl
Newspaper

What You Do:
Cover your work surface with newspaper. Hot-glue two CDs back-to-back, sandwiching a loop of cord between them for hanging. Squirt some gem glue into a bowl.

What the Kids Do:
Dip a finger into the gem glue and onto the CD. Press a gem onto the glue. Continue until both sides are filled with gems. Sprinkle both sides with glitter to cover the excess glue.
